An enterprising and innovative healthcare business strategist with a 25+ year career in key leadership roles, Heba Adkins has earned a reputation for overcoming the challenging obstacles to growth and development impacting healthcare organizations. Heba has recently shifted her career focus to healthcare business consultancy, leveraging her vast industry expertise and talents for driving business and quality initiatives in mission-critical areas such as operational turnarounds, change management, culture change, leadership development, technology optimization, and facilities planning. She has recently joined WLH and will lead the Health Care consulting practice.

Throughout her career, Heba has faced risk head on and challenged the status quo to develop strategies for transformational improvements in operational efficiency, quality patient care, and cost containment that boosted both revenues and shareholder value. Leveraging a strong vision and direction, she secures shareholder sponsorship, makes the bold decisions to move business forward, and mobilizes interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver key initiatives. These attributes, coupled with Heba’s deep commitment, respect for people at all levels, and ability to instill accountability, loyalty, and collaboration, have helped these organizations to the next level of success, especially implementing large-scale change initiatives.

Through consultancy, Heba has assisted companies in developing growth strategy, improving financial performance, strengthening operations, enhancing competitive position, and optimizing organizational alignment. She has guided organizations through planning and execution of strategic business plans in tandem with executive decision makers to assist organizations with business/practice development, acquisition goals, healthcare IT application development and implementation, and leadership training and coaching. Her client engagements include Multi-Hospital Integrated Delivery Systems, privately owned physician practices in multiple phases of maturation, and Healthcare IT start-ups.

During her tenures as CEO of multiple organizations, Heba has been the driving force behind creating and elevating brands that differentiated her organizations and positioned them as Community leaders and beacons of excellence in their specialties.

Few notable achievements:

  • Enlisted to envision and execute a strategic plan to help grow Laureate Medical Group, she set the building blocks and spearheaded growth over a 14-year period, overcoming a deep economic recession to position a thriving healthcare organization for acquisition in 2012.

  • Consistently throughout all her tenures, outperformed 90th percentile levels of industry benchmarks for physician compensation, receivables management, and overhead expenses;

  • Honored with Atlanta’s Top Workplace Award for 2011 and 2012;

  • Led early adoption of electronic medical records and directed implementation of multiple systems. Her first implementation in 2005 realized 100% electronic documentation of all patient records in one month with zero loss in productivity and 100% ROI within six months.

  • Consistently achieved targets for all third party and CMS performance-based bonuses, including Meaningful Use and PQRI.

  • Spearheaded the creation of a proprietary patient portal to enhance patient experience and patient communication processes;

  • Conceptualized and led a practice initiative to obtain Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH-2011) accreditation and Diabetes Recognition Program status by the National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA);

  • Assimilated physicians, staff, services, and systems in a highly regulated, fast-moving post-acquisition setting after a successful hospital group buyout in early 2012.

  • Delivered exceptional patient care consistently illustrated through 95-98% patient satisfaction scores.

Early on, Heba developed a passion for healthcare. She launched her career at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, NY, where she was promoted from Manager of Internal Audit to Director of Admissions and Outpatient Registration at the Allen Pavilion. Later relocating to North Carolina, she accepted the position of Business Manager with a privately owned multispecialty group practice in the Triangle region. Promoted within nine months to Administrator and Executive Vice President, Heba’s contributions were key in turning around a business undergoing organizational divestiture and experiencing critical performance issues, financial instability, and high staff attrition.

Heba is a Certified Medical Practice Executive, holds an MPA, with a concentration in Healthcare Finance from New York University and a BA from Virginia Tech.
