In just a few weeks we will be saying goodbye and thank you to 2019. It is during the holiday season that we express gratitude and celebrate the best life has to offer. With the busy flurry of wrapping up “to-do” lists just in time for some much-needed rest and relaxation, it is worth reflecting upon one’s own leadership journey and come back refreshed for 2020.
For many of you, it will be to celebrate surviving and thriving the past years’ large-scale change. For others, this year has been about building your change agility knowing it is a highly valued next generation leadership capability.
Change agility refers to anticipating and embracing change, which requires reflection and acknowledgment of the past. Change agile leaders draw insight from the past and apply the lessons learned to future initiatives.
We hope to support this time of reflection by sharing an important distinction of “Up Until Now and From Now On.” “Up Until Now” provides the pause that allows you to take stock of the past. This rear-view mirror perspective can help generate insights on the commitments and actions you will take going forward or “From Now On.”
Consider the following questions as you reflect upon the past year’s changes within your organization. Then, ask yourself how you can leverage that insight to guide your actions from now on.
The new decade marks a unique opportunity along your leadership journey. As you countdown the days to 2020, give yourself the gift of reflection and use it to fuel your change agility.
