Leadership Empathy is a critical skill on all fronts. While leaders must empathetically engage with their direct reports, it is just as important for them to develop the skills to empathetically engage with their customers.

When the pandemic first hit, WLH developed an approach to help leaders develop empathetic engagement skills. Though there are various coaching models used across many organizations, empathetic engagement has continually been the missing piece.

Here, we present 4 tips for leaders who seek to engage empathetically:

  1. Let go of the assumption that work and home life are two completely separate domains
  2. Shift the focus to output rather than working activities
  3. Remember empathetic engagement is the heart of being inclusive and respecting others
  4. Seek to strengthen relationships to facilitate emotionally driven conversations
